I was reconfigureing my computer to get it back to a
previous day. my computer shut down when my dog stepped on
the shut off switch. after that when I turned on the
computer again the and log on as a user a notice pops up
and says that it can't find BROWSE.dll. Then after I press
close the window closes and my desktop is not there just a
backround picture no start menu. I can't figure out what to
do.

You have a trojan onboard. 1) Scan with current antivirus ("current"
means a version not earlier than 2002 but using updated virus
definitions); 2) continue the maintenance and remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com). These programs are free, so use them both since
they complement each other. Be sure to update these programs before
running, and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode.
