Brother MFC help

R

Rich Williams

I have installed a Brother Printer/scanner/fax combo.
The thing works great. Howver, when I restart my
computer, it won't go past the BIOS screen and says at
the bottom "Searching for Boot Record from USB RMD-
FDD..." Then it just locks up. I have to unplug the USB
and Control-Alt-Delete to restart. It restarts fine.
Then I plug in the MFC and it works fine. I so get an
icon on the bottom of the tray that states it is safely
remove Hardware. When I click on it it says Safely remove
USB mass storage device (Drive G:) and also says Safely
remove Brother MFC4420C USB. ANy suggestion???
Feel free to email me at (e-mail address removed) Thanks
RW

Hi Rich --

That's a weird problem! It looks to me like your system is trying to boot
off of the device's storage-media card. You might try poking around a little
bit in the configurable BIOS of your computer. Look for a "Boot Order"
option or something equivalent; make sure "HDD" / Hard Drive / C: is set
ahead of "FDD" / Floppy.

As a word of warning, BIOS is the one place you can really screw up your
computer -- so be careful here. If you're not comfortable poking around in
the BIOS UI, you might try working with Brother or Microsoft phone support
on this issue.
