Brother MFC-8840DN

I've recently been in the market for a good laser printer for my home
office. I generally was not a fan of
multi-function devices, but with the need for a fax and the niceity of
coping and scanning, it seem more attractive.

I've looked at the HP 3030 from HP and the Brother 8840DN. Now, I really
need a network device so I can
fax from any computer, print from any computer, and the scanning to any
computer on the network would be nice.

I don't do graphics so the scanning does not need to be top quality.

My first impulse was to go with the HP. I always considered them to be the
defacto standard in B/W laserjets.

But a lot of online reviews gave their products iffy feedback. The Brother
got much better reviews. Typically
I would think you get what you pay for. But I believe that HP may be pricer
due to its name.

I would appreciate any feedback on these two (or any other) devices. It
must be a laserjet and the monthly pages
is far less than the lowest model's recommended amount (about 1000 pages per
month is what I print).

I am really a fan of a flatbed scanner over the devices that scan like a
fax.

Thanks in advance.

With the brother you dont need to buy a print server u can install it
on 1 computer and share it and then you can print/fax from all
computers on the network vs. the hp i had a problem to set up to be
able to fax from any computer
