My laptop is a HP Compaq Presario V600N. The switch is next to the icon
stating wireless. I have played with it a number of times. It would only turn
on and off the bluetooth devices.

Right click Computer and select Manage.

Expand Services and Applications
Click On Services.
Scroll down to Wired AutoConfig and make sure it is set to Automatic
and then Start the service.

I know it says Wired AutoConfig but if you click on it this is the description:
This service performs IEEE 802.1X authentication on Ethernet interfaces

I have tried this several times before and the same results. I re-did it with
the same results. Nothing.

Have you checked device manager and tried the old trick of deleting the wireless adapter and rebooting?

Thats good advice. But can't find driver in device mamager. I even downloaded
a broadcom 8002.11 up to date, nothing worked. I followed a previous advice
of removing the adapter ( once I found it) pluged it back in with power to
see if system would notice. Nothing.

I would like to thank everyone for their help. For what every reason, the
driver reloaded in Device Manager and the wireless system started working. I
had not done anything to it since receiving guidance from Steve. if it went
out once, I know it will again. Fingers crossed. THANKS

Mines worked for three days. I had to send it back to HP. They fixed
something on the circuit board and updates the BIOS. It took only five days ,
including shipping. You might give HP Tech a call.

Thanks.
But I bought the notebook in USA and now I'm in Brazil and HP doesn't give
any assistance for this model.
Do you know how can I update the BIOS?
Thanks

That's a REALLY GREaT ADVICE!!! I checked - mine was set to manual, I hope
that will be the end of my disastrous 2 months.... during this time i've
tried everything - reinstalled drivers, qlb, reseated the card as per HP's
advices - nothing.. all of sudden the device would be recognisd once in a
coupla weeks and work until i switch off the PC, after that I would switch it
on without any luck to log onto to the internet...- no network adapter...

i have a feeluing that it has somethong to do with certain vista update,
after installing which everything went off, but am not sure...

i have HP pavilion d6000 amd processor if it says anything to anybody....

if your solution will not help dunno what i will do then....
