Broadband will not connect anymore!

I need urgent help please!

I have Windows XP home with SP2 and BT Broadband Basic (using their own
voyager modem)

My connection has been working fine for many months, but suddenly I can
no longer log on!

When I hit the connect button on the bt broadband connect screen, it
displays the "verifying username and password..." as normal, but then
after about 1 minute it gives me an error:
"(718)... the remote computer did not respond..."
if I try again I then keep getting this error:
"(691) Access denied because username and/or password was invalid on
the domain"

I have gone into the bt broadband options screen, and checked my
username is correctly defined.

The only system change I can remember making is I installed some
windows updgrades -
..Net 1.1 Framework and a .Net 1.1 security update.

I have now uninstalled those upgrades (and rebooted), but I still
cannot connect.

When I try logging on, I have watched the modem and the data light
flickers on breifly 2 times and then stays off.

When I run BT Broadband Help utility it just sits there and does not
finish running/stops responding.

I have also tried disabling my firewall (norton internet security 2005)

I need some suggestions please.....

thanks!

I would suggest you call you ISP and have someone help you trouble shoot
the problem over the phone. If they can't help you fix the problem over the
phone then they'll schedule a tech to come out to your house (or place pf
buisness) and find the problem. Either way they will solve the problem and
at no cost to you.

You can test your ADSL line by using the BT test user account. All you need
to do is configure your ADSL modem with the user name bt_test@startup_domain
(That is bt_test and _domain in case your reader has drawn a line under
the user name) No password is required. If you cannot connect and you are
sure your ADSL line has been activated and the modem is installed under
device manager then your only alternative is to contact BT. It could be a
problem at the local exchange.-that will show up by a little led on your
modem not lighting up. The only way to get that fixed is to contact BT. BT
can also test whether the line is down if you call them. Incidently the
Broadband connection can go down without having any effect on your telephone
ie the phone still works!
