Try System Restore to before the black night :-( and see if that will help.
If not what you get when you try in Normal Mode, please send the exact
wording of the error message for us to help you, as there is no info to work
on, in your post.
Also you may need to Uninstall and reinstall the software for your modem and
run this command:
Open a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow click [OK]
HTH.

DL wrote about updates, I have them installed automaticaly.

It would appear that there is like a firewall, and its blocking access to

Think I might have to give Microsoft a call.....

In hardware devices your NIC card should be listed as a Network Device

Since your connection works in safemode, it would appear to be a driver
problem, or other service.
Try, in msconfig;
Disable all startup items, reboot and test
If still no go in Services Tab, hide all MS Services, disable the rest and
reboot
If its good to go on either of the above its a question of ellimination

Hi DL....I was trying every avenue I have read about, I have stopped
everything except ms in the services and all in the start up and have done a
diagnostic start up all to no avail..............I am at the point of a
rebuild, though I am dreading this.
I have run a norton ghost, and on compleation, it dawned on me I will just
transfer the same problem.l.........aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Anything else...........before suicide.....LOL

In hardware devices your NIC card should be listed as a Network Device

Since your connection works in safemode, it would appear to be a driver
problem, or other service.
Try, in msconfig;
Disable all startup items, reboot and test
If still no go in Services Tab, hide all MS Services, disable the rest and
reboot
If its good to go on either of the above its a question of ellimination
