Broadband Connection Problem

M

Matty

I use Bt broadband with a BT voyager 100 USB modem. Up until yesterday every
time I restarted the computer the USB modem would stay powered off. To get
it to work I would have to unplug the USB lead and then plug it back in and
all would be fine. Since then I have found and removed 6 viruses using up to
date AVG cleaned everything with up to date spybot and adaware. Installed XP
service pack 1 and all available updates including direct x 9. Have also
turned on the XP firewall. Now when I restart the computer the modem stays
on and does not need resetting however the broadband connection is always
disconnected after a restart. To connect I have to double click on the
connection to get it to connect and work. Everything else on the computer
seems to be working fine except for this problem which is bugging the hell
out of me. I have been into the modem properties in device manager and
unticked the allow computer to turn off power to this device and I have also
done the same on the USB port. Has anyone got any good ideas.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Have you tried any of the XP troubleshooting tools?
(Press Win-F1 and click on Networking and the Web
or Hardware)

BTW this question is off-topic for this newsgroup.
You would probably have better luck posting to newsgroup which
specializes in networking on XP such as

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web

(in OE: Ctrl-w, public.win xp. net)

Good luck
