Briefcasing access files

Does anyone know why Microsoft converts a database to a replica before
briefcasing.

I find this a real pain - some of my files are not replicable, & it makes
them huge when it does replicate them as well as cause other restrictions.

I found a way around it & that is renaming my database files with another
extension and make my explorer know that extenmsion opens Access, It seems
to work, does anyone know of a potential problem I might be getting into?
Any other ways around it?

Thanks in advance

That is its way of keeping track of changes. If you can be 100% sure
that only one file will be changed, they you can just copy files, but if
there is a change in any other files, without using replication those
changes would be 100% lost.
