Break Mirror & Boot from Mirror Partition?

T

Tom C.

I've got a Win2K server with two Fujutsu 18GB drives. The boot/sys partition
is mirrored to the 2nd drive. I want to break the mirror and boot from the
2nd drive that has the mirrored partition. The boot.ini looks like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Server"
/fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Recovery Console" /cmdcons

After I break the mirror, can I simply edit the boot.ini to boot from the
2nd drive? What edit do I have to make? Are there other considerations? I am
attempting to boot to the 2nd drive, pull and replace the 1st drive,
reestablish the mirror, then set the system back to booting from the 1st
drive. Is this possible? Thanks.

Apparently you cannot assign the boot disk without re-jumpering, but it
depends on SCSI controller BIOS. Read the articles and disconnect the first
disk in the chain.
