Ok folks heres the challenge . This is a team effort . Can we source parts for a new pc for under £150 . Just for this we'll not include the p+p and all parts must be brand new . Were looking for a good all round pc that will play some games .
Heres my starter.

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials...6GHZ+(754)+OEM+&utm_campaign=newsletter300707

Thats a 1.6GHZ cpu with 800Mhz FSB for £10.52

That leaves £139.48 to spend folks .

This sounds quite fun

How about this:

MSI K8MM3-V Socket 754 Motherboard - £27.86

It's cheap, but only has an AGP slot - should be some bargains for that now that most people have PCIe though.

That leaves £111.62 unless there is anything cheaper.

How about a Samsung internal DVD-ROM for £12.50
Internal DVD drive

leaving either £97.72 for PCI
or £99.12 for AGP

Thats not a bad price , We'll put that on hold for the mo as a DVD writer would be better and I have a feeling that just a reader could be had for less .

We are looking to save every penny here yet still have a decent pc , but I'm still going to hold that decision till later as I know you can get a CD-Rom for £4.99 and I found this Lite-on DVD-Rom for £9.73.

From your link:

System Requirements :
1. Your system / Board must be able to use 1GB DDR modules
2. Not an Intel based nor ASUS board nor nVidia Chipset

There's got to be something iffy about memory that won't work with Intel or Nvidia chipsets or Asus motherboards.

And Asrock are a subsidary of Asus so if you went with the listed board, you couldn't use that memory.

Sorry, but there's no such thing as a free lunch and most cheap stuff is, quite frankly - crap :)

Not always though, I'll grant you that.

Is this a quest for a decent budget system or the biggest pile of poo system? :) ;)

Ok if we go with TC's HDD and PSU that leaves £8.89 for a case.

Though I do think a Sata 2 HDD amd a 500w PSU is somewhat overkill for a system with a Sempron and a 6200LE. :p:D

EDIT: Well hush my mouth! Didn't read it properly that is a psu and a case!

We are £8.89 under bdget people! What can we do?? :D

Well at £153.12 we were a little over budget . However I think we got quite a nice little pc . I recon with another £15 we could have had the better cpu I linked to and a DVD writer . Heres the final line up .

Socket 754 2800 Sempron CPU 1.6Ghz £10.52

Asrock K8NF6G-VSTA Motherboard £29.36

Geforce 6200LE 256Mb pci-e Graphics card £15.73

1Gb Corsair DDR PC3200 Memory £34.64

Xilence CPU cooler/fan £4.99

120GB Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 HD 7200RPM SATA II £27.99 Here

DVD-Rom for £9.73.

Case and 400w psu £20.16

Thats a great team effort and I bet with a couple more hours searching we could have built a better spec pc on budget .
A pc like that would do for a small one man business or a moderate games player or a student . After all it has DDR ram and a SATA 2 hard drive and a pretty decent mobo and Corsair memory . So it has potential to be upgraded aswell .

i suppose the OS would be Ubuntu?

Not so good for games but I'm no expert on Linux . Iif you could play games with Linux then it would be the choice . Guess with that HHD we could have a dual boot system .
