Boxes with changes in right side of document

I have recieved a Word document in version 2003 for Windows. When I open it it displays a vast number of boxes in the right side of the document. The boxes have lines pointing to places in the text where changes have been made. I would like to get rid of these boxes and merely have the changes display in red with or without a strikethrough like I am used to.
Is that feasible

Hi Bjørn,

From the Tools menu, select Options and then go to the Track Changes tab and
set the "Use Balloons (Print and Web Layout):" to Never
