border color problems

Excel 2002 (10.6501.6626) SP3
My Border Color is set to Automatic. When I use the
Borders Toolbar button to make some borders on a cell(s),
the color is always light Grey. When I highlight these
same cells and right click/Format Cells and click on the
drop down arrow for Color, the square next to 'Automatic'
appears to be black, but the style box above shows Grey
lines. How can I change this to Black? Thanks

The default border colour should be controlled by your Window settings.
You can change those in the Control panel, under Display

The font color under Control Panel / Display /
Appearance / Advanced / Window already shows black. Any
other ideas?

Hi Dorci,
Are you saying that you tried the replies in this thread and they didn't work or
that you won't try the answers on your own without prodding. Consider yourself
prodded.

BTW (By the Way), there is a difference between black and automatic for borders,
and don't confuse borders with gridlines.

David,

Just as Don stated, the default setting in Control Panel already shows
black. I saw no other suggestions posted. We are in fact referring to
borders, not gridlines. As a matter of fact, I only have this "gray
automatic border" problem in one worksheet. The default border color in my
other files are always black.

That's a puzzler, I can't duplicate it but try this anyway
on a copy of the workbook.
Tools, Options, Color, Reset, Ok

Format, Cells, borders, make sure automatic doesn't show
a color, it should produce black.
