Had no trouble with PC.
Just tried to bot up and screen opens with the preOS screen stating the
motherboard and processor, etc and along the bottom,"press DEL to enter SETUP"
It remains frozen on this screen and if I press DEL it gos to setup after a
long delay.
It willnot accept the default settings.
I havethe latest trendmicro AV 2005 and only had file update and ranAV
before shupdown(clear)
Also ran Adaware and cleaned out a few things. Is it OS or HW problem?

It might be time to replace the cmos battery?
If that's the case then it is hardware and not software.
Have you ever replaced one before in that computer?
Is it an older machine?

Hardware no doubt. You haven't gotten to the point where you're reading from
the drive yet.

For your info
It is an Xp sys failure. This is the 3rd one in 3 years, 2 of which were due
to "software failure". I have not been installing.I do not like going back
into a full restore what with all the MS patches. I dont like the idea of
buying a new Xp disc, so I might give a Linux OS a burl. It may well be more
reliable.Ta for your advice.Gordon

Sounds like a POST detected hardware issue?? XP sys failure? Not during a
POST. Check input/output hardware and attachments.
