Well, I am attempting to get to safe mode in XP
Professional and I only get to select the drive to boot to.
I know that f8 is the key to hit, I have been using
microsoft products for some time and this is the first I
have ever run into this problem.

I appreciate any help with this, cuz I would really like to
change some setting and it seems that I can't.

You are hitting it too early. The point is where BIOS info goes to
black, before the Windows Logo.

But the time can be difficult to hit. Alternative is in XP - Start -
Run MSConfig.exe and on the Boot.ini page check /SAFEBOOT

Exit and reboot into Safe Mode. You will have to repeat the run and
uncheck when you want to revert to normal.
