Booting from WinXP CD, or from the six floppy disks.

Should I download the set of six bootable floppies, given that I have a
WinXP Pro installation CD that can be used to boot a computer?

Does the set of floppies do anything the CD will not do, apart from being
useable if the CD drive fails?

You don't need the Setup boot disks. They are only needed if you cannot
boot from the CD-ROM. You cannot install XP with the setup disc set by
it's own, you still need the CD once the pc is booted and setup will ask
for it to copy the necessary files. If the CD drive fails you will need
to replace it to install XP.

Thank you for the information.
