Booting 2000 Pro without a Lan connection.

Hi, I've inherited a Dell 650 running W2000 Pro, shortly after Windows starts
to load I receive an error message that there isn't a LAN connection, which I
can't get past and can't rectify until I can get into Windows to turn this
requirement off or install a modem.

I don't have the original modem or the O/S discs any way around this please.

.Hi,sorry to confuse but I'm now no longer getting the original error message this is what I'm getting instead.

Windows starts to load I know get the automatic 'Log on to windows' box
showing user name 'Administrator' with Password hidden as 6 asterisks.

Then this Logon message appears 'The system could not log you on. Make sure
your user name and domain are correct then type your password again' etc
I clk on 'OK' and a new Logon Box appears to re-enter the username/password
manually.
The original username/password stored in Windows must be corrupted and I
don't now what it was anyway.>

I have used F2 to enter Bios setup and the 'Security Tab' shows-- Password
status=unlocked.--System Password =not enabled--Setup password not enabled.

I am able to enter the 'Advanced Options Menu' useing F8 but when I enter
the first option 'Safe Mode' I'm back to the Windows log on box again.

I need to get into Windows to change the password but I don't have the disc
am I Stuffed. Thanks for your help.

The BIOS password is not in any way related to the Windows password.

If you get a message about an invalid password then this can have several
reasons:
a) The password is incorrect.
b) Someone changed the password.
c) Your PC was previously connected to a domain (probably at work) and you
disconnected it from the domain through the Control Panel.

For a) and b) I recommend you type the words below into a Google search box.
Since this is a VFAQ, you will get a very large number of hits. The Nordahl
boot diskette/CD is probably the most used solution.

forgot windows password

For c) you must consult your network administrator. If you crack the
password with a Nordahl disk then your popularity rating might drop sharply.
