Booted XP and no Printers Scanners showing or System Tray Speaker.

Control Panel applets are showing empty.

All my printers & scanner have gone, how do I rectify this..?

Nothing has been added or removed, hardware or software, or lockups or
crashes..

Will not let you add new printer or scanner as the button does not respond,
and no system tray speaker, even if you try to install it.

I have has this happen once before after a crash due to corrupted system
files caused by a PSU power failure, but only a Clean install fix it that
time..

But this is a totally different system, so what has caused this.? or is it a
XP bug that does not seem to show on Google or the MS web site..

System Tools/System Info does list the printers & scanner.

XP home..

Just a guess but maybe the chipset drivers have been lost, corrupted or
whatever. Then the OS does not see the ports because the "pci bridge" is
mission.

The OS does see the parts as the System tools, System Info Shows them and they
also work..

Thanks. I had the same problem with Windows XP and your
solution worked.

All, I have had this exact problem, as described on the Windows 2000 forum, but
on my WindowsXP Home Edition machine. Basically I am not able to view previously
installed printers and can not add new printers via the Add Printer Wizard because
it does not work. However I am able to print and view
installed printers via MSOffice
Applications and Adobe Reader, but not able to in MS Internet Explorer....strange.

MY SOLUTION: I was able to fix my problem. The
printui.dll was somehow deleted
from the C:/WINDOWS/system32 directory from some other installation or a windows
update....don't know which one. So I obtained another version of the printui.dll
file (actually from a Windows2003 machine) and copied it to the C:/WINDOWS/system32
directory. I then re-boot the computer to let the new .dll re-load (I think) and
my problem was solved. The printers showed up in the
control panel and the Add Printer
