booted off internet

i have a computer that connects to the internet via modem. ISP is walmart
connect of all things. it randomly boots the user off of the internet while
surfing. i dont beleive it is auto disconnect since it happens while
surfing. the person also believes it may have started doing this after
upgrading from windows me to windows xp. any help is appreciated
 
The frst thing to do is to activate the modem .log (may have a different
name, depending on the modem).
Inspect the modem.log file after a disconnect event.. You may see such
things as loss of carrier. or other messages.
Some of these will likely shed some light on events.
