Hi there,

Sometimes when I try and start up my computer it says the error message
(during startup in MS-DOS mode) "Detecting IDE Drives" Please can someone
tell me what it means and how to fix it,

the onl;y way I can get around that, is that I have to keep my pc off for
about 2 hours then it seems to work fine but it can get really annoying,

Hi,

"Detecting IDE drives" is not an error message, it's telling you what the
system is doing. If it stops here and does not load them, then you have a
problem. As allowing the system to cool off resolves it, then you have a
hardware fault. The (hopefully) easiest one is to reseat or replace the IDE
cables. Otherwise, either the drive holding the system is failing or the
motherboard is.
