Boot-Up Issue - Sometimes....

S

Soul Spectrum

I have a slightly annoying issue with XP Pro,
Basically it usually starts up fine and I get no problems
with actually using it, but occasionally it will appear to just
'pause' at the XP logo with the blue dots still moving from
left to right as if it is booting up.
I have left it for 15 mins to see if will go eventually but it
just stays in the same mode 'till you reset it.....
This only happens perhaps once in every ten startups but
it's starting to get irritating when you need to use the PC without
all this farting around.
Once reset, it (normally) boots up as it should.

(System:- QDI BrillianX M/B (Bios Ver 2.1 slr)
Pentium-3 @800 mhz (Slot One)
Seagate Barracuda 40gb / 7200 rpm HD
256mb SD-Ram
Geforce4-mx440 64mb DDR
SB-128 s/c
Intel PCI NIC
Trust USB PCI 2.0 Controller)

Anyone had the same issue?
I haven't tried removing cards etc yet, purely due to time
constraints, but will do some troubleshooting when I can!

Install xp cd,exit the info page,restart computer,open BIOS,exit page,select,
load set-up defaults,or optimal settings,click ok,reset any settings for add-in
cards as needed, then boot tab, devive priority, select cd drive with xp in it,close,
exit saving changes, boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter key for password, then
type:CHKDSK C: /R Type:EXIT when thru,remove cd.Youll want to reset boot
device priority back to hd as 1st device in BIOS.
