Boot up failure

Hi, I have a Compaq 5441 with an Award Bios ... the trouble is when I
start the computer I see checking the keyboard and can hear the HD
going but the screen stop at "COMPAQ" which is the first
screen you should see before it gets in the bios ... I tried taking
the battery off, cable and even the Bios Chip off but it makes no
difference. Any suggestions?

Try to boot to another drive, such as a bootable CD or floppy disk.
Report back your results.
 
It sounds like a component such as your motherboard has died. It may be
time for a new computer if that is the case.
