Boot Up does not bring get to start menu

When I log into XP the system brings up a back ground, but it never gets to
the start menu. The desktop is empty. I can get to the task manager, but it
will not let me do much of anything on the computer.

Oh sure it will. You can do anything you want from task manager. *grins* You
just gotta know how to do it.
