Boot up and processes - too much memory!

My Task Manager shows that there are many processes running which are not part of the default Windows 2000 Professional boot up sequence. How do I ensure, ON A PERMANENT BASIS, that these processes are not involved during boot up?
Any help on this would be appreciated...my boot up time currently stands at 5 minutes!

Well first off check your startup menu to ensure you don't
have any unwanted programs loading up when you login.
Secondly run Lavasofts adware to see if you have any nasty
little hijack programs installed and using up system
resources at start-up.

Check also in control panel for any programs that may have
installed themselves without your knowledge.

That will get you started.

If it is still slow, you can check your registry's startup
entries, or else re-install windows to speed it up
completely !!
