How to get rid of the speed problem :-
Install XP SP1 on top of your existing setup, turn off file and print sharing,
and run 2 patches - the RPC fix and the LSASS one (
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980 and
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=835732 ). There you go. Now turn off system
restore, automatic updates, and a few non-essential services, and you'll have
a PC that's about as fast as a Windows OS PC can get. For safety, I recommend

| message | | Me too. I have an AMD Athlon 1400, and I get a blank screen for about 1
| | minute, but the lights going across bit before the blank screen lasts
about
| 90
| | seconds instead of the 15 seconds it used to take before some of the
latest
| | security patches were applied (not SP2 but it says that's where they are
| from
| | in the Add/Remove control applet.). Something on my PC has changed for the
| | worse - the sound is now choppy whenever there is disk activity - this
never
| | used to be a problem until these recent updates.

| | | | | when I start my pc it whizzes through the startup through the windows
| | | scrolling lights bit then it comes to a complete stop on a blank screen
| (not
| | | even the blue screen of death) for about 5 minutes then it boots into my
| | | desktop, what could be causing this? I have no ad or spyware malware or
| | | viruses and I havent downloaded anything since it was last running fine.
I
| | | cannot do a system restore as I have it turned off.
