Boot problems

Ok, I need help, b/c I need use of my computer before 7:30
tommorrow morning.

I was downloading a program from the internet, and when
extracted, it contained a bunch of system files, it
seemed. One of them was boot.exe, and i clicked it on
accident. The computer restarted, and it keeps restarting
without loading Windows. I've tried going through my
BIOS, and doing it in Safe mode, etc. I get a black
screen, the arrow pops up, but the window telling
me "windows is shutting down" pops up really fast, then my
computer restarts. I need help, any ideas??
I'm using Windows XP Professional
Compaq Presario Computer

Hmmmm, this is interesting. I see it as being case where windows xp is
loading and then immediately shutting down, based on your description. Try
going into safe mode (while the computer is booting, keep pressing the "F8"
button. When prompted, open in safe mode. Once in, go start/run/type in
msconfig/enter/click on the "startup" tab/one of the checked programs is the
culprit. You can uncheck all the programs and then reboot but the programs
that you want will be disabled.

You might start there and then repost and ask what programs you need.
Another option is to get to this point and then restore from a previous
point.

I've tried loading in Safe mode and from "last original
settings" and i get the same results.
