Boot Problem

When starting or rebooting my XP system screen scrolls thru all disks, PCI
devices etc. However then it freezes with the message:
"Boot Disk Failure. Insert System Disk and Retry"

I can overcome this freeze by:
1. Rebooting (Ctrl-Alt-Del) followed by pressing <F11>.
2. This brings up the 'Boot Menu'.
3. If I select my Hard Drive ('C') everything proceeds normally.

System is otherwise rock stable and works fine. Virus (x2) and malware
scans, etc. are clean. No recent system, software or hardware changes hafe
occured.
I tried the 'System Restore' utility going as far back as possible => No
help.

Suggestions appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually checked because I'm compulsive =>
No disk.

Actually, I rarely use that 3.5" drive anymore. I only installed it
because it was dirt cheap and I need it once or twice a year.
It seems just like yesterday ...

However, I still got that boot problem.

You might restart, enter the BIOS and change the boot order to CD-ROM,
C: drive, then floppy. If you need the floppy to be read first at a
later time, change it back.

Hi ss,

Check the Boot order in your Computer BIOS. Make sure it hasn't changed.
Sometimes it can change by itself because of a problem.

That's true of almost all of us.

I only installed it
because it was dirt cheap and I need it once or twice a year.

And that is exactly the combination of reasons why I want to have one, and I
think almost everyone should. You don't need it often, but when you do,
you're glad you spent the $10.
