Boot problem after upgrade from Win 2000

After upgrading to XP from 2000 my system takes about 11 minutes while
displaying "Loading your personal settings..." This occurs when the main
user is logged on. A new user profile does not exhibit the problem. How can
this be corrected while maintaining the original configuration?
