Boot options in Start Up ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ #

Is it possible to have a choice of boot options in Start Up?
System: Pentium III
Windows XP Pro SP2 on Drive 1 (Default boot)
Windows XP Pro SP1 on Drive 2

Is this the file to edit?
------------------------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
-------------------------------------------------
What do I need to add to the above to make the Boot Loader appear (after the
BIOS post), displaying a choice of boot:
in HDD1 WinXp SP2 or HDD2 WinXP1

Is it safe to edit this file?

It looks like you have installed XP twice in the same partition. This not a
good idea and will eventually bite you badly. Not knowing exactly what you
have done configuration wise it is only a guess how to answer your question.
Post back with more details.
Your best bet would be to boot from the XP CD and load the recovery console
[RC]. You will need to run bootcfg and fixboot from the prompt.
See the link below for more info on the RC. There is a list of RC commands
available from the link if you are not familiar with the RC commands.
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box

No she didn't. She said "Windows XP Pro SP2 on DRIVE 1 (Default boot)
Windows XP Pro SP1 on DRIVE 2".

Never mind, watching "Alias" and answering newsgroup posts never works. LOL

When you run setup for the second XP installation choose the second drive
and XP whatever version will be added to the bootloader. If the hardware
remains the same activation should go through by the internet, but
technically each time XP is installed without removing the prior XP
installation, it requires a new license.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

Thanks guys for coming back so quickly:
1. To Michael Stevens
As Homer pointed out the XP installations are on two different Drives. Does
this still mess things up?

2. Homer, thanks for your clarification.
(By the way, Twanny is a "he" in Malta! :)

3. Kelly, I have tried Boot Managers, but they caused a lot of problems with
Norton's GoBack. It was either or: I kept GoBack.

By the way, in safe mode, I notice that you have to actually choose the
default installation. I was thinking about something on this line.

Sorry, Twanny. I guess I should use he/she from now on unless I'm really
sure. I ALMOST did the same to Kelly. Luckily, I saw a post where she was
referred to as a she.

This is clear now: did not think of that.
Is it possible to activate two licences for the same computer? I have two
WinXP CDs, one quite recent.

Yeah, buddy....true that! Today was Ash Wednesday. And for supper we had
freshly caught fried fish and home made fries (no meat for the Ash). As for

No problem Homer! Sometimes people leave details as to their identies (look
mine - top of the message, where it says: By and click on Twanny). Anthony is
my full name, but Twanny is "daily norm". By the way, anyone knows how to
edit these Personal Profiles?

Yeah, buddy....true that! Today was Ash Wednesday. And for supper we
had
freshly caught fried fish and home made fries (no meat for the Ash). As
for
the next six Fridays, boiled crabs, shrimp, crawfish, potatoes, garlic,
onions, bell peppers and one heck of a kick butt dip.)

Sorry, Twanny. I guess I should use he/she from now on unless I'm
really
sure. I ALMOST did the same to Kelly. Luckily, I saw a post where
she
was
referred to as a she.

:

Thanks guys for coming back so quickly:
1. To Michael Stevens
As Homer pointed out the XP installations are on two different
Drives.
Does
this still mess things up?

2. Homer, thanks for your clarification.
(By the way, Twanny is a "he" in Malta! :)

3. Kelly, I have tried Boot Managers, but they caused a lot of
problems
with
Norton's GoBack. It was either or: I kept GoBack.

By the way, in safe mode, I notice that you have to actually choose
the
default installation. I was thinking about something on this line.

:

Is it possible to have a choice of boot options in Start Up?
System: Pentium III
Windows XP Pro SP2 on Drive 1 (Default boot)
Windows XP Pro SP1 on Drive 2

Is this the file to edit?
------------------------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
-------------------------------------------------
What do I need to add to the above to make the Boot Loader appear
(after the
BIOS post), displaying a choice of boot:
in HDD1 WinXp SP2 or HDD2 WinXP1

Is it safe to edit this file?

I don't understand how you installed a second XP without getting a dual
boot.

If the second XP is on the first partition, then you need:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
