at startup, i want to choose which drivers to load for a particular device,
depending on which program i want to use. how do i do that???
 
Try setting up different hardware profiles. Right-click My Computer >
Properties > Hardware > Hardware Profiles

I strongly doubt that hardware profiles will let you choose the *drivers*
you want to load for a given *particular* device.
Hardware profiles help you to automatically enable or disable a particular
device.
I don't see how using hardware profiles can achieve:
profile-1, device-A enabled, devicedriver-x
profile-2, device-A enabled, devicedriver-y

AFAIK profiles will allow you to *vary* the device-part to enabled/disabled
but not the driver-part.
There simply is no default way to define that, unless you succeed in having
the same device defined twice.
