I've just installed Windows XP Home edition and the boot.ini is empty.
Would someone sen me a copy of your boot.ini file?
 
that's not going to help - it's 'superficial' at best
as you don't know what other files are missing - and
it would be best to do a 'clean install' to make sure
you get a
'completed os w/appropriate files that boots'
