Boot.ini tab does not show in msconfig.exe if boot drive isnt C drive.

Hi

I reinstalled Windows XP Pro and setup picked L as the drive letter for my
boot drive. Unfortunately msconfig cant see the boot.ini file so therefore
the boot.ini tab does not show. I have tested this by mapping the boot drive
of another machine to the C drive and when this is done the boot.ini tab
shows in msconfig. Can this be fixed in SP2 ?

regards

Tim

Seems like part of my post got truncated. Don't know why. You should still
send Microsoft feedback as they aren't looking here, and we peers can't
modify Microsoft's code.

If you run "attrib c:\boot.ini" in a DOS shell, are the system and hidden
file attributes set on this file?

Is the "L:" drive actually the "system drive" as defined by Microsoft at
"Definition of System Partition and Boot Partition"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314470)? When you boot (using the
instance of Windows on L:), what do you get when you run "echo
%systemdrive%" in a DOS shell? That should be the same drive and partition
where is NTLDR, BOOT.INI, and (I think) NTDETECT.COM.

You mention doing a reinstall. What drive letter was Windows XP installed
on before? C: or L:? If it was C: and you did another install (not
reinstall) on L: then it sounds like you have a parallel installation of
Windows XP - unless L: is now what C: used to be (i.e., L: is the same
physical drive and partition as was C:).
