To get rid of a virus on my XP system, I used the system configuration
utility to boot into safe mode (alternate). How do I get the system to boot
back into normal mode?

I had gone into the system configuration utility and set the computer to
boot up in safe mode, minimal devices. Now my computer won't boot in safe
mode or normal mode. I tried using F8 to choose the method of booting up.
But it always takes me back to the black options screen (boot in safe mode,
normal mode, last known working config. etc...) no matter what I choose.

How do I get the computer to boot up normally again?

Next time in safe mode Go to Start>Run type: msconfig click Ok.
Select the Boot.ini tab and uncheck Safeboot.
Click Apply, Ok. Restart. You will get the message about messing with
msconfig. Just check the box in the lower left
corner.

it won't boot into safe mode or normal mode. It keeps going back to the black
options screen i described below. the start button is not available. Is there
another way? thank you
