Boot from CD

I need to re-install Windows XP.
In Windows, I can read the CD, but when I re-boot and I press a key to use
the Windows XP Professional CD, I get the message that it is inspecting
hardware, and then blank... No blue screen etc!

What can I do?
 
Also, when I now boot up, I get a choice of
Windows XP
Windows XP Setup

Setup still stops at black screen.
