boot from cd problem

I received a laptop from someone who passed. I don't have a
password for it to boot after the ctrl-alt-del sequence. I'm trying to boot
from cd so I can reinstall windows. I set BIOS to boot from cd first, but
it's going strait to password screen. Help!

Many of the newer laptops now do not have a floppy drive unless you
specifically request one when you buy it. However, I'm not sure if this works
with laptops like it does with a desktop computer, but I had the same problem
with my desktop that had a specific password placed in the BIOS by someone
else.

The answer to solve this and to get rid of the password and set everythng
else in the BIOS to the "Default" settings, was to remove the small battery
that is used to hold all information settings in the BIOS, time, and other
program settings, and after waiting a few minutes, re-install the battery
(preferably with a new one) and then reboot the computer. Once you can get
back to the BIOS, then re-set it with the setting of your choice. This should
now allow you to boot from a CD.

Hope this helps...Good luck. I'm not familiar with the floppy program
suggested but without a floppy, try the battery trick and se if that doesn't
work.

Are you sure your not missing seeing the little line at the bottom of the
screen that says..push any key to boot from CD???
it might not be there for long
peterk
