I am recieving the Blue screen with the message that the
system cannot load the hive, the SAM file is missing.

The file system and all files seem to be in place, I am
running the NTFS file system.

Bad situation here is that I cannot locate the recovery
disk.

I believe this is a security access manager problem.

I cannot afford to lose the system because my business
system is there.

HELP, there must be a way to recover, can anyone point me
in the right direction before I mess this up.

By Googling for "Windows XP SAM file missing" I came up with this link:

You will need a Windows XP cd. If you've lost yours - you know, the one
that had the big letters that said "Don't Lose This" - then you'll need
to go buy another one at the store or contact the mftr. of your
computer for a replacement. You'll probably wind up having to reinstall
Windows. If you cannot afford to lose the drive because your "business
system is on there", you had better learn to do backups because it is a
fact of life that Bad Stuff Happens with computers. If you neglected to
make backups and now are stuck, be smart and take the machine to a good
local computer repair shop and have them 1) rescue the data; 2) fix
your system. Consider it a cost of doing business.

I have back-ups of the material on DVD-RAM, the material
is not damaged on the drive either. The back-up does NOT
save the protected SAM file or the HIVE. I cannot find it
on the Back-Up or the Mirror.

The operating system is in tact but since it has several
user profiles it must have the Security Access Manager to
load the permissions for the hive.

That disk WAS generated when I put the operating system on
the server. The disk has gone missing! My quary was
intended for some knowledgable person to help me possibly
find a "Hidden" copy of the SAM FILE on the drive.

Your help boarders on the term RANT, I was looking for an
XP / NT guru that might have a suggestion BEFORE I have to
reload the complete operating system then restore the data
files.

The Point here is, much of the POS files require RE-
INSALLATION if the op sys changes because the serial /
registration numbers change with each insallation. If I
don't have the same op-sys machine modified reg number
then the banking and credit card clearing software does
not work because it needs a new number.

I would not have asked the question if I wanted to do all
this work. I have all the disks and they are licensed
copies!

SO PLEASE, IF SOMEONE KNOWS A WORK ARROUND PLEASE COMMENT

Next time make sure your important data is backed up.
