boot error

After a previous restart, on booting to windows the error
mesage 'extend.dll is not a valid windows image' appears
and can not be bypassed unless sysmap.exe is closed down
in task manager could anybody please help me solve the
problem, to my knowledge no modification has taken place
to result in this problem.
