Everything's going just dandy, but my comp froze up (too many things going on
at once) so I just shut off power and restart.

It doesn't start up - gives me the a boot problem. I do a fixboot and chkdsk
and that's fixed.

But then windows has the "Welcome" screen, it gives me this :

"Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a
temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log
off."

"Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this
error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If
this problem persists, contact your network administrator. "

"Windows was unable to load the registry. This is often caused by
insufficient memory or insufficient security rights."

That has never happened to me, and it might be because of Service Pack 2? I
downloaded that a few days ago, and haven't had any real problems until now.

Hi Martin,

Your user profile is corrupt. You will have to create a new one. Logon as
administrator and create a new one for yourself, then copy the old user data
to it to save most of your settings and preferences.

To access the default administrator account:

In WinXP Pro, hit ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen and type it in.

In WinXP Home, you must restart and enter Safe mode by hitting F8 at
startup. The administrator logon will be one of the options.
