Is there any way to make an XP Bootable CD? I need to
see the files on my hard drive and it is formatted NTFS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The computer is a Sony VAIO, so there was no actual XP CD
included. All they have are their recovery CDs that
restore the hard drive to its original configuration.
Besides, they were lost in a move.

I believe the Kernel32.dll file has been corrupted and I
need to copy a new one over the old one. I can't do this
unless I find some way to boot up with the ability to
read an NTFS partition.

Hope this is enough additional information.

1. If you have a recovery disk for Windows XP, use the boot up screen to
login to the recovery console.

2. If you do not, use this information for Obtaining Windows XP Setup Boot
Disks

After getting into the recovery console, you can replace the Kernel32.dll
from the Windows XP CD.

If you do have the Windows XP CD, have a look at the resolution of the
problem listed in the link below:

You can try using NTFS Reader for DOS

Another option would be to use Knoppix. It is a huge download of a Linux
based operating system that runs entirely from CD. It is free. When you
run it you will be able to "unlock" your hard drive and then
copy/move/delete files from it. Info on it here http://www.knoppix.net/docs/
