Boot CDs for Windows

I'm looking for a CDROM you can use to boot a Windows ME machine if
something is wrong with the harddisk.

First of all, do they sell such a thing at stores like Compusa? I
couldn't find anything relevant at their site except for the actual OS
which costs a lot.

I found things on Ebay called Rescue disks which cost about $5-10. Do
you think they would work?

You'd think people would want to buy those, since people often lose the
disks that came with the computer, and might have to boot from a CD.

Google, man, google.

"windows me boot disk"

You have to have a floppy to make once of these. You can make a
bootable CD from a disk image.

Obviously you have to have access to a working computer (which you do)
do download and make one.

Danny, how would I go about making a bootable Windows ME CD from your
site? I have XP on my own.

Can I boot a Windows ME computer from an XP OS CD? If so, I don't need
anything right now. Thanks for the tips.

Larry, how big is the bootme.exe file?

If I download it, do I just execute it? What will happen?

Thanks

With a CD burner, CDR media and Nero (even Nero express), you can make one.
First, you need a bootable windows ME floppy disk. If you don't have one,
download one from www.bootdisk.com
(You will download it as a program that will create a bootable floppy disk)
Then you fire up Nero and specify that you want to make a bootable CD. Add
ALL files from the Windows ME floppy boot disk to the project, then click
next and Nero will read the system files from the bootable floppy. Add any
other files you want, then burn. Make sure before you burn that you have
xcopy.*, fdisk.* and format.* (* means any and all files that begin with
that string) at the very least.
If you don't have a floppy disk drive, just borrow a computer that has one
(and a cd burner) -Dave

BUT FIRST set your BIOS so that it boots in this order: (1)floppy (2)CD (3)HD.
The default is sometimes/frequently/usually (1)HD, which is stupid.
