Book.xlt problems

Keith Young

When I open Excel (Excel 2002) for the first time, it opens the Book.xlt
template. However, when I am in Excel and go File - New - Blank Workbook,
it does not use the Book.xlt as the default for the new workbook.

Anyone know how to fix this so that when I want a new workbook from within
Excel, it uses the Book.xlt template?

I have customized Book.xlt and Sheet.xlt files in the Documents and
Settings/.../Application Data/Microsoft/Excel/Xlstart directory and nowhere
else.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Tools>Customize>Commands>File.

Drag the "New" button to your File Menu.

Not the "New..." button with the ellipsis.

Use that button to open a new workbook. Your Book.xlt will be the default.

Why New...Blank workbook doesn't find the Book.xlt template is a mystery to
me.

Just a guess, but there can be a few XLStart folders (especially if you've
upgraded through different versions)--and maybe you're not storing your
templates in the correct spot.

Open excel
alt-f11 to get to the vbe
ctrl-g to see the immediate window

type this and hit enter
?application.startuppath

For me (xl2002 and win98), I get:
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

===
And just curious, why not just hit the New icon (on the Standard
toolbar--usually under the File option on the worksheet menubar)?

See my posting.

No matter where I put BOOK.XLT it will not open when File>New...>Blank
Workbook is selected.

That's why I just use the New command or button.

Ah, gotcha.

(but in my defense, I never use File|New... with that button so temptingly
close!)
