Bonjour Service

In the process of installing Photoshop CS3, I seem to have also had
something called Bonjour Service installed. I'm using XP he SP2.

In C:\Program Files\Bonjour there are two files: mdnsNSP.dll and
mDNSResponder.exe

I've been told I can disable this service but it's not listed in
Services and I've been told I can disable it in msconfig but it's not
there either.

It's a Apple product and they have a .exe that will disable it but I'd
like to disable it and then remove it.

Anybody here familiar with this program?

Look here

usually installed with Apple software , as in Safari browser . When
installing software , use custom , and uncheck Bonjour .

I'm not sure where it came from but it raised it's ugly little head
while I was installing Photoshop CS3.

I found in in Services, it's listed as:

##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762##

So now I can disable it. So much for Apple software not sneaking
software onto a computer.

I've seen this get installed when you install iTunes; it is also sometimes
called "wireless network autoconfiguration" or something similar. I believe
it may be mentioned on Apple's website somewhere. You are right that it can
be disabled safely unless you want to talk to other devices that use it.

It has been disabled with no problems.
