Downside to bonjour?

Is there any downside to having apple's bonjour net service running?
It seems you have to accept it to install iTunes for one. The little
I've read about it it seems to duplicate functions already running
fine on my network, or offer things I don't need. Is it hogging up any
processor time or network bandwidth? I could go around and uninstall
it from all the system but that may be a waste of time. I like to keep
systems clean and simple and this seems to be one of those things you
get whether you want it or not.

Thanks

Bonjour is not AFAIK a security risk in itself, however it advertises any
already-insecure services across the LAN, and does so without your OK. So,
it could in principle compound any existing security hole by making it known
to others.

Quicktime is definitely a security risk, and has been the subject of a
number of exploits. Quicktime Alternative is allegedly safer.
