I bought a new computer (dell laptop). When i'm surfing some images (mostly
the GIF - images) are blurry. Not a big problem you would think. But this
problem means that sometimes the text of some of the menu's of some sites are
unreadable.

What can i do to fix this.
thanks

ps I have not changed any of the resolution settings yet.

Steven,

Your report is a little unclear, or contradictory anyway. Do you have a problem
with blurry text, or blurry graphics?

Does your ISP provide you with an accelerated service? Many ISPs are trying to
speed up web surfing, by compressing graphic files. Unfortunately, the
compression mechanisms remove detail from the graphics, causing blurring as you
describe. You can't get something for nothing.

text is never blurry. The graphics are. But sometimes there is text in
graphics. For example the colourfull google letters or the text in some
menu-bars, ...

I have the same internet-connection on my desktop. But there is no problem
at all.

OK, thanks for clearing that up. The problem is simply graphics. But it's
unique to the laptop, so probably not internet service related. So what's the
difference between the desktop and the laptop? Different video device (what
type of monitor on the desktop)? Different video drivers? Different resolution
/ colour settings?

Does the laptop have an external monitor connection?

I don't know much about this, but here goes:

my desktop is allmost 10 years old, so it has an verry normal 15" screen. My
new laptop has kind of a wide screen (rectangular shape).

settings
desktop resolution: 1024x768
laptop resolution: 1680x1050

my laptop monitor is ATI MOBOLITY RADEON X300 and I can connect an other
monitor (also TV).

I checked with a friend who also has an dell laptop, and he has the same
problem. he also doesn't know how to fix it.

thanks for your help so far!

Steven,

Does your friend have the same internet service? Is he running the same
resolution (1680 x 1050)?

Is 1680 x 1050 correct? Is that the native resolution? From what I've read,
"flat" screen (solid state monitors) work best in only 1 resolution, not like
CRT monitors that can accept a multitude of resolutions and refresh rates. So
hook up an external CRT monitor that has the same capability as the built in
monitor, and see if you see the same problem.

You have looked at the same web page from your desktop system, and seen better
results? Is it possible that the desktop system is blurry too, but you expect
that cause it's lower resolution (or bigger image)?

Can you provide URL examples of problems?

I came across this interesting posting and was curious to find out more.

You should be able to find your answer(s) on the Dell website under Support
and their Community Forum. And search for these:
(1) fuzzy images and font
(2) jagged or blurry fonts images

Also look up Dell documents FA1086442 and FA1084811 from their site search.
Those same articles may also help for those with high resolution LCDs.

Hope that helps.

sorry I didn't answer, but I was away for a few days.

I did find the answer on the dell website! So thanks a lot!
I had to reset my dpi settings to normal (by default they were set to a high
120 dpi)

thank you both for your help.
