Blue Screen

I receive the following message when booting up:
"Stop: C0000218 {Resistry file failure}
The Registry cannot load the hive (file)
\systemroot\system32\config\software
or its log or alternate
it is corupt, absent or not writable"

I have tried a Safe and last working boot options with the
same results. Booting off the XP disk has also produced
the same results. I did do a XP restore off the disk and
can see the "software" file referenced, but am at a loss
on what to do next...

Some items I found doing a google search:

A) Repair your XP Installation
1.Reboot with your XP CD
2.Select Windows Setup(Ignore Repair@ this point)
3.Press F8 to accept EULA
4.Now press R to repair your damaged XP installation..Your configuration and
files should be intact.GoodLuck

Q) how do i get my comp to reboot from my xp cd. ive had to use a 6 disk xp
floppy boot disk to get into any options at all. i havent tried to get my
comp to boot from my xp cd, im not sure if i know how.

A) get in the bios and change the boot order from A to cd and reboot.
