Hi,

I continually get blue screens when I try to print PDF
files. There is a supported hotfix from Microsoft, but I
do not know how to get it. It is not available on their
website and the software was installed on my computer
when it was purchased.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Laura

How do you know there is a supported fix from MIcrosoft?

Have you downloaded the latest version of ACrobat?

In reference to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 839008:

"Bugcheck code 0000008E" error message on a blue screen when you try to print
a document or a PDF file in Windows XP

Write operations to an external storage device take a long time to complete

The only way to obtain the patch is to contact Microsoft as outlined in the article.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services
to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone
numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;CNTACTMS

[ In the U.S. Call 1-425-635-3311 ]

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may
be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update
will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will apply to additional support
questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Hi,

There's a Knowledge Base Article (#839008) that describes
my problem exactly and I do have Adobe Acrobat v.6 pro,
with all the latest updates applied.

Thanks,

The answer how to contact them is given in the link on that page you must
have gone to. Sounds to me like they want some money for it.

If you want to avoid that, you could try searching for freeware that reads
pdf files. Open Office probably does this but Im not sure.

Laura,

Acrobat reader 6 is a bloated application.
Try uninstalling version 6 and installing version 5.0.5 that was faster and
in my opinion better.
Download acrobat 5.0 here:
ftp://ftp3.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobatreader/win/5.x/ar500enu.exe
and then install the update to make it 5.0.5
http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/5.x/a5u1t1.exe

in nothing works you can always install 6 again from here:
http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/6.x/6.0/enu/AdbeRdr60_enu_full.exe
