A person that I'm trying to help is getting this stop at least 2-3 times per
week. I hope you can help me help him with the limited information that I
have. The stop displays the following:

Invalid kernel handle
Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing
***Stop: 0x00000093 (0x00000530, ...) the rest of the parameters are zero

He has a 2 year old video driver that I will update for him, but I didn't
know if there could be any other problem that I can help him resolve. He
has a laptop running XP SP2 that I made sure was current on all updates.
His ISP is Juno and he has loaded the latest version of their software. It
appears that this only happens when he is on-line, but that may not be a
significant piece of information because he primarily uses the computer for
email and online research.

I volunteer at a senior citizens facility helping residents without charge
with any computer problems, questions, upgrades, etc., that they might have.
He is a resident and this problem has stumped me. Thank you very much for
any help you can give us.

Bill

p.s. If "disable BIOS memory options" is valid, any help you can give me as
to how I do that would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start by doing what the error message says "Disable BIOS memory options
such as caching or shadowing".
Enter the BIOS setup and see if there is an option to disable
shadowing/caching.

Hi,

To disable video caching in the system BIOS, you have to enter it (setup)
when the system first boots. With that error message, it's a logical first
step. The BIOS is not part of windows, but is rather a set of instructions
residing on a motherboard chip that allows the system to interact with the
hardware. It is only accessed when the system is initially started, before
windows takes over - often it is covered by a manufacturer's splash screen,
hitting escape can reveal the screen messages. What you want to see is the
line that says "press <key> to enter setup".
