Several users have experienced the blue screen of death
following installation of XP SP2. They swear the PC met
all system requirements, especially memory, prior to
install. Any suggestions on cause?

Hi,

Even if the computer meets min standards for the update,
if you don`t properly prepare the computer for the update,
then chances of getting BSOD is very high. You need to
ensure your system is virus free,
spyware/malware/adware/parasite free, delete all internet
temp files and cookies, run chdsk or Disk doctor, defrag
your hard drive, back up important data, turn off/disable
anti-virus, turnoff/disable any virtual drives. Then you
can install XP SP2.

There are probably more pre-install steps, you can go to
the links that many of the MVP`s have listed, also
Microsoft has instructions on what to do prior to
installing SP2. 99% of the time, the user will not have
any problems as long as they follow the steps outlined in
preparing your computer for the update.
