My system intermittently tries to come up in normal mode
with one or the other of the above blue screen error
messages

My biggest problem is that I foolishly forgot to
enable "system restore" after troubleshooting a virus
problem several months ago. BTW and a suggestion to MS
is to run a reminder alert on boot up when this feature is
disabled.

Is there any way for the typical computer geek and
inexperienced de-bugger to trouble shoot this kind of
problem? Can anyone such as MS tech support trouble
shoot and save having to reformat?

THANKS!!!

As a followup to my question, the only thing I could think
of that might have caused this is that I ran SFC /scannow
the evening before because I was having some minor and
erratic IE6 problems. SFC continued to completion on its
own without requiring insertion of the WinXP CD. I did
not reboot it immediately after it finished and continued
using the system that evening. Next morning had the blue
screen errors described.

I contacted Dell and after CHKDSK they want me to reformat
my hard drive. Easy for them to say but a lot of work
with potentially lost data. And the tech support guy
never did call back as promised. Hopefully there is a
fix on this as I can't get anything but a safe mode
boot. Any experience with MS tech support and their
diagnostic tools?

Microsoft is having a Win32k.sys error. You need a hotfix from them. You need to call support and get it for free. I need to do this myself.
