Blue Screen during the "expanding Files" part of the install

HELP HELP !!!

I got windows vista RC1 to installl on my laptop just fine with no probs

I try to install it on my desktop and i get a blue screen during the subject
mentioned part of the install

something about memory management

Desktop Specs:

amd 1 x 3500
ram - 3 gigs
nvidia graphics card
um... don't know what else i need to share

Can some one PLEASE !! help me i love vista so much and i want to play
around with it on a more powerful machine

This currently is a known issue and should be resolved by RTM. One thing
that I suggest that you try is download and run MemTest86 and thoroughly
scan your memory for errors. This issue is caused most of the time by
hardware issues and the BSOD is thrown as a safeguard to protect the rest of
the hardware.

the funny thing is on my desktop i had 2 x 1gig dual channel ram installed
along with 2 x 512s , i took both the 512s out and tried the install again
and BOOM it seems to be working now ... so you think it may have been that
windows doesn't like more then 2 gigs of ram ??

If I am not mistaken the limit 4 gigs on a desktop but it could be 2 gigs.
Usually though when this error occurs it signals some sort of a hardware
issue.

along with 2 x 512s , i took both the 512s out and tried the install again
and BOOM it seems to be working now ... so you think it may have been that
windows doesn't like more then 2 gigs of ram ??

4GB is the limit. It wasn't the amount that Vista didn't like. It was
something about those two memory sticks.

It could be a BIOS problem. I get the same thing with XP Pro x64 on a new
Core 2 Duo box with pc6400 ram. At 2GB all is well with both XP Pro x64 and
XP Pro SP2, but at 4GB only the XP Pro SP2 will run. x64 fails. With more
than 2GB I get a BSOD as soon as the x64 installer leaves text mode and
tries to start Windows. Right now I am running with 2GB and am having no
problems with x64 or x86.

You should be able to run any flavor of XP or Vista in 4GB, even though x86
Windows will only use 3GB. Since I have moved the memory moduled around in
various combinations, I don't think it is my ram (unless the ram is simply
too fast for x64 above 2GB). If it is a mobo just released in the last
couple of months it may be a glitch that needs a manufacturer's fix.

Thank you for the clarification on the memory limit. Maybe those two sticks
are bad.

Vista will run on a machine with more than 4GB. x86 will only see 3GB but
x64 can see up to 128GB.
The amount of physical ram in the computer is not the issue. Hardware
issues are, however. See my other reply to this post.

It might be that the 3rd stick is faulty.
Have you had any problems running your previous OS with it?

Is it true that the highest stick of ram needs to be closest to the
processor?
I read that somewhere but it could be BS.
