Blue Screen after WIN2K SP4 update

J

Jay

I tried to install SP4 on my sister's computer. 85% of
the way through I received the error: Insufficient System
resources exist to complete the requested service.
I clicked OK and then it did a rollback, uninstalling all
the files that it updated. It was still listed in my
add/remove programs as being installed which was really
strange. So I shut down and installed more RAM thinking
that that would resolve the first error. Then when I
booted back up I got a blue screen saying "The dynamic
link library winsrv could not be located." Then it
reboots. I tried to repair it from CD, didn't work. I
also tried last known good config; didn't work. She
never made an Emergency repair disk so I can't use that.
This started as a favor to get her computer up to date
since I have a high speed internet connection, now it has
become a big project.
Please help.
Thanks in advance for either error message.

Hi Jay,
I also faced these situation many times. If you have any
important data please back to a nother disk. If you don't
have a disk it s ok. do the following
1)boot the computer from windows 2000 cd boot disk(4
floppies)
2)try the repair option(R)->use the manual(m)->L
keep the cd inside the cd rom. try this few times. It
will correct your system files. Logon to system and check
if all the programs are working. at dos prompt type
chkdsk /r to repair the files. restart the computer.

tell me your progress

I actually did try that twice but after you told me to do
it a few times the third time let me rewrite all the
system files that were not the original. I repaired all
the files it asked me to and on the reboot I am now
getting "lsass.exe-Entry point not found; The procedure
entry point equaldomainsid could not be located in the
dynamic link library advapi32.dll. Then I get a system
shutdown. Lsass.exe terminated unexpectedly with status
code 128. I looked around and found a fix for renaming
advapi32.dll and restoring it from $ntuninstallq274172$
but it didn't work. I renamed advapi32.dll to .old and
then repaired all system files again from the CD. I can
boot into windows now. Running chkdsk now. I will let
you know how it goes.
Thanks a lot, you saved me a big hassle so far.
